Harvard Referencing

What I’ve learned is that when writing an essay or any piece of work, if information is being sourced from other places. such as websites or people, the list goes on. They do need to be credited for it.

Referencing is described as a “Standardised method of formatting the information sources you have used in your assignments or written world” (Usq.edu.au, 2016) the idea as previously stated acts to acknowledge where your information was received from. It also allows readers to find the information where you previously got it from if they want to know more. The general belief is that citation only needs to occur in quotes. or as i did util i began uni. Referencing also needs to occur for images and other ideas, if your wording is based on another’s they still deserve to be credited for their work and thus referenced. tough you arent directly quoting someone the information you have received is not entirely yours and therefore one is simply rewording almost someone elses’ idea.

There are two part to referencing; one is in text citation which is citing who the ideas came from within the text, and the other is creating a list of sources that were used to create this piece of academic writing, and this list comes at the end of the work; usually in alphabetical order (Imperial.ac.uk, 2016).

Referencing is thus an important part to ones studies, to make your pieces of work better without discrediting the people you got information from. Its to prevent the work from looking like its entirely yours when its not.
